Customer Newsletter October 2013

A new newsletter at last - the writer has been busy helping to produce new editions of all Avizandum's Statutes on Scots Law, hence the delay! The new annual editions of Avizandum Statutes on Property, Trusts and Succession Law; Family Law; and Commercial and Consumer Law are now available.

Avizandum Publishing has brought out new editions of the Statutes on Obligations and International Private Law this year. These titles come out every two years and have been updated to include major developments since the last edition. The Obligations volume incorporates relevant amendments made by the Land Registration etc (Scotland) Act 2012 and new materials include the Consumer Rights Directive and the Draft Regulation on a Common European Sales Law (CESL). New material for the International Private Law volume includes the Rome III Regulation on divorce and legal separation; the Succession Regulation 2012; and the Brussels I Regulation as recast in 2012. The Hague Convention on Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children (1996), which came into force in the UK in November 2012, and the Hague Convention on International Recovery of Child Support (2007) have also been added

New editions of student books: Family Law by Anne Griffiths, John Fotheringham and Frankie McCarthy who cover the many and substantial changes of recent times, including the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Forced Marriage, etc (Protection and Jurisdiction) (Scotland) Act 2011. Evidence: Principles, Practice and Procedure by Fiona Raitt who has adopted a new approach to this edition, covering the policy-making and legal context of recent reforms. Gretton and Steven have published a new edition of their invaluable text on Property, Trusts and Succession, updated to take account of the Land Registration etc (Scotland) Act 2012.

For the profession the new editions of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 and of the Sheriff Court and Court of Session Rules are now available. Laura Macgregor's book for SULI on the Law of Agency in Scotland was published in the summer, an authoritative analysis of the subject from the historical and comparative perspectives. Volume 2 of Unjustifed Enrichment by Robin Evans-Jones will be published, we are reliably informed, by the end of the year.

For family law practitioners, Professor Norrie has updated two major titles this year. The third edition of Parent and Child in Scotland (a SULI publication) is now available and the third edition of Children's Hearings in Scotland comes out in November.

New books that we anticipate for November include the new 4th edition of Scottish Law of Leases by Angus McAllister, the 3rd edition of Law of Banking in Scotland by Lorne Crerar, and the 3rd edition of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 by Jack Cummins.
